cohabitation- pornography
Pornography has been linked to a number of negative impacts on the human mind, hormones, and neurotransmitters. One impact is the potential for addiction, as viewing pornography can lead to changes in the brain's reward system, similar to other addictive behaviors.

Introduction

Pornography refers to sexually explicit materials, such as videos, photographs, magazines, or literature, that are intended to arouse the viewer or reader. It can be found in various forms, including magazines, books, videos, and online content. The term “pornography” comes from the Greek word “pornographos,” which means “writing about prostitutes.”

Types of Pornography

Allah Almighty says:

Indeed, those who love to see immodesty spread among the believers will suffer a painful punishment in this life and the Hereafter. Allah knows and you do not know. [24:19]

Because pornography causes to spread of immodesty in believers that is why it is Haram in all its forms. Pornography is a great source of Fahishah.

Pornography has been around for centuries, and its availability and accessibility have increased dramatically in recent years due to the internet. The vast majority of pornography is consumed by men, although there is a growing market for pornography aimed at women and couples.

Pornography can be controversial, with some people arguing that it is a form of free speech and expression, while others believe it has negative effects on individuals and society as a whole, such as the ones I mentioned earlier.

The negative impact of pornography on the human mind, hormones, and neurotransmitters

Pornography has been linked to a number of negative impacts on the human mind, hormones, and neurotransmitters. One impact is the potential for addiction, as viewing pornography can lead to changes in the brain’s reward system, similar to other addictive behaviors. Additionally, excessive consumption of pornography has been linked to decreased sexual function and satisfaction, as well as decreased ability to connect emotionally with a partner.

Research also suggests that pornography may have negative effects on the brain and hormonal system, including changes to the levels of hormones such as testosterone and cortisol, which can impact mood, motivation, and aggression. Furthermore, excessive consumption of pornography may lead to desensitization to violence, and desensitization to other sexual behaviors.

How does pornography decreases sexual function and satisfaction?

There are several ways in which pornography consumption may lead to decreased sexual function and satisfaction. One way is through the development of unrealistic expectations or ideals of physical attractiveness, which can lead to body image issues and dissatisfaction with one’s own physical appearance. Additionally, consuming pornography may also lead to difficulty becoming aroused or achieving orgasm with a partner, as the brain may become accustomed to a certain type of stimulation or arousal that is not present in real-life sexual encounters.

Another way is that pornography may lead to a decrease in the ability to form emotional connections with a partner, which is an important aspect of sexual satisfaction. This can happen because pornography use is associated with less activity in the brain’s reward system when viewing real-life sexual interactions, which can make it more difficult to feel pleasure from sexual experiences with a partner.

Furthermore, pornography use may lead to a decrease in sexual desire for a partner. This can happen because the brain becomes accustomed to the constant stimulation and novelty provided by pornography, making it difficult to feel sexually aroused by a partner. This can be especially problematic for people who have difficulty feeling sexually aroused by a partner in the first place.

What changes occur in neurotransmitters while you watch a porn video?

Watching a pornographic video can lead to changes in the levels of certain neurotransmitters in the brain. Dopamine, for example, is a neurotransmitter associated with pleasure and reward, and its levels are known to increase during sexual arousal and orgasm. Research has shown that viewing pornography can lead to an increase in dopamine levels in the brain, which can contribute to feelings of pleasure and addiction.

Serotonin is another neurotransmitter that is thought to be involved in sexual behavior. Low levels of serotonin are associated with sexual dysfunction, and research suggests that consuming pornography may be associated with decreased levels of serotonin in the brain, which could contribute to sexual dysfunction and dissatisfaction with real-life sexual encounters.

How to quit pornography addiction?

Practicing Muslims try their best to avoid pornography and can’t get addicted to consuming pornography. However, if somebody falls in this marshy area, he should ask forgiveness from his Almighty Lord repeatedly. Moreover, one should spend time reciting the Qur’an, offering prayers, reading Seerah (Prophetic biography), sitting with the saints, and attending religious discussions.

Quitting a pornography addiction can be challenging for people who excessively watch porn videos,, but there are several psychological strategies that can be helpful:

  1. Recognize the problem: Acknowledge that you have an addiction and commit to making a change.
  2. Set goals: Establish specific and measurable goals for yourself, such as reducing the amount of time spent viewing pornography or avoiding certain types of content.
  3. Identify triggers: Understand what triggers your addiction, such as stress, boredom, or certain emotions. Try to avoid or manage these triggers.
  4. Find alternatives: Find healthy alternatives to fill the void left by pornography, such as exercise, hobbies, or social activities.
  5. Seek support: Support from friends, family, or a therapist can be invaluable in overcoming an addiction. Joining a support group specifically for pornography addiction can be helpful, as well.
  6. Use technology: Use technology to block access to pornographic content, such as by installing software that blocks access to specific websites or by using internet filtering tools.
  7. Practice mindfulness: Mindfulness practices, such as meditation or yoga, can help you be more aware of your thoughts and emotions, and better manage them.
  8. Be patient and kind with yourself: Changing habits takes time, and relapses may occur. Be patient with yourself and don’t give up.

It’s also worth noting that some people may benefit from therapy or counseling, especially if their addiction is related to underlying emotional or psychological issues. A therapist can help you understand the underlying causes of your addiction and work with you to develop healthy coping mechanisms.
