To understand the concept of Dajjal in Islam, read our article “The Messiah Arrives” In this article we shall focus on Banu Tamim’s role against Dajjal.

Narrated Abu Huraira (May Allah be pleased with him): I have not ceased to like Banu Tamim ever since I heard of three qualities attributed to them by Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) (He said): They, out of all my followers, will be the strongest opponent of Ad-Dajjal; `Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) had a slave-girl from them, and the Prophet (ﷺ) told her to manumit her as she was from the descendants of (the Prophet) Ishmael; and, when their Zakat was brought, the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “This is the Zakat of my people.” [Sahih al-Bukhari: H#4366]

This Hadith narrated by Abu Huraira highlights three commendable qualities attributed to the Banu Tamim tribe by the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him):

  1. Strong Opposition to Ad-Dajjal: The Prophet (peace be upon him) praised the Banu Tamim for their steadfastness and resilience, stating that they would be among the strongest opponents of Ad-Dajjal, a figure in Islamic eschatology representing deception and falsehood. 2. Noble Lineage: The Prophet (peace be upon him) acknowledged the noble lineage of the Banu Tamim by mentioning that Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her), one of his wives, had a slave-girl from the tribe. He advisedAishah to manumit the slave girl, recognizing her descent from Ishmael, the son of Prophet Ibrahim (Abraham), who is considered a revered figure in Islamic tradition. This gesture reflects the Prophet’s respect for the lineage and heritage of the Banu Tamim.
  3. Generosity in Giving Zakat: The Prophet (peace be upon him) affirmed the contribution of the Banu Tamim to the payment of Zakat, the obligatory almsgiving in Islam. When their Zakat (charitable donation) was brought to him, he acknowledged it by saying, “This is the Zakat of my people.” This indicates that the Banu Tamim fulfilled their religious obligation of giving Zakat willingly and generously, demonstrating their commitment to supporting the welfare of the Muslim community.
